Storyboarding

A storyboard may be helpful to show your photographer exactly what you want to capture, and to help you plan what your campaign is going to look like. You may want to work with a designer to set this up.

Storyboards help you to understand before the shoot the constraints you are working with and where to best place your subject for different formats. You can use the boards to plan out where you might need:

  • negative space (the area which is not the subject) in your images - for example to place a heading or text
  • extra space to the left or right - for example to accommodate the fold in the middle of a printed publication or to place text overlaid onto the image.
