Matt Coggrave


Matt is based in the Communications Production team, creating video content and providing consultation for strategic campaigns alongside the media, digital communications and marketing teams. This includes a monthly Research Spotlight video feature, supporting pieces for student recruitment campaigns and regular media story pieces that showcase the important research taking place within the University.

Matt has a critical eye for visual storytelling and strives to help raise the standard of output University-wide, ensuring that video is utilised appropriately to help achieve the desired objectives whilst retaining its impact and creative integrity. Matt works closely with the Creative Brand Manager, helping to develop consistency in video output, delivering training and working one-to-one with colleagues across the University to provide training on best practice when using video to communicate.

He is particularly interested in how audiences engage with video and is working to develop new ways of creating emotionally-engaging content.


Matt comes from an agency background, having worked in an award-winning Manchester-based creative agency producing video content for a broad range of clients and campaigns. He oversaw the planning, execution and delivery of the creative process from start to finish.

Matt initially trained as a musician and sound engineer, graduating from Leeds College of Music. Using his awareness and experience across different media professions, he has developed a holistic approach to content creation with a deep appreciation and understanding of how visual and auditory elements interlink.

Matt joined the University in 2018.
